Trunk or Treat

The second annual Trunk or Treat Festival will be held on Saturday, October 28th from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Trunk or Treat is a fun and safe “trick-or-treating” opportunity for kids, AND a treat-giving opportunity for adults. Kona Ice will be on hand for the event. At trunk or treat, costumed children walk through our school parking lot, stopping at cars that have decorated trunks, and receive candy. We need families to participate in decorating their trunks and handing out candy (no nuts). Please look for a Signup Genius in your inbox soon.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Ridgeview students are invited to bring a decorated pumpkin to school for the Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest. The decorated pumpkins can be dropped off in the Ridgeview Commons from October 18th through October 26th. On October 27th students will vote for their favorite pumpkins. There will be one winner per grade. Pumpkins should be decorated, but not carved. Please keep the decorations appropriate for school. Please label the bottom of your pumpkin with the student’s name and teacher. Any pumpkin remaining after Trunk or Treat on October 28th will be discarded.

It’s Socktober at Ridgeview!

Ridgeview is hosting a sock drive during the month of October! We will be collecting new socks to donate to the homeless community in Peoria. Please bring *NEW* socks to school during the month of October to help those in need! There is a specific need for white, cotton socks for men, but all sock donations are welcome! There is also a great need for men’s deodorant, so we would love to add that to our donation this year as well!

2017 PTO Fun Run Results

We want to thank our PTO, our students, and the entire Ridgeview Community for a highly successful inaugural Fox Fun Run. This year’s event brought in just over $13,000 for our school community! The PTO and the Ridgeview Instructional Leadership Team will be working collaboratively on how to utilize these funds to benefit our school.

The Ridgeview Library Needs Your Help!

The RES Library is supported by PTO volunteers.  If you can help, check the link below for opportunities.  Librarian duties include: checking in/out books for the kids,  helping kids find a good book for the week, and reshelving the books that have been returned.  A security profile on record is required to volunteer for library.

Ridgeview Library Q&A and Volunteer Request

RES Library Q & A

RES have a librarian?

No, the district does not provide a librarian for our elementary school.  The library is coordinated by two members of the PTO and staffed by volunteers who have completed the district’s background check procedures.

What do volunteers do in the library?

Volunteers help students choose books, check them out, and return safely to their classroom.  We also have many behind the scenes jobs such as re-shelving books, helping with inventory, and preparing new books to go on the shelves.

Who are the volunteers?

The volunteers are parents, grandparents, and caregivers of Ridgeview students who have completed the district’s background check procedures.

How do I volunteer?

If you are interested in being a volunteer please send an email to [email protected] or visit the PTO Facebook page.

Do library volunteers need background checks?

Yes, all volunteers in the library need to have a background check.  More information can be found on the Dunlap district web page.

When is the library open?

The Ridgeview library is open for student use on Thursdays and Fridays.  The library space also serves as the RES technology and media classroom on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.  But, don’t worry all the classes have a chance to visit the library on Thursdays and Fridays.

How long are the volunteer shifts?

Volunteers can serve just when their child’s class is visiting the library or as long as the entire day.  You decide how long you would like to spend in the library and sign up for your shifts on a monthly basis.

Are volunteers given any kind of training?

Yes, we give training to volunteers.  It takes approximately 30 minutes.

Who provides funding for the Ridgeview library?

The library is funded in part by the district and in part by the Ridgeview PTO.

Can I donate books to the library?

Yes!  We are always happy to have donations.  RES library has a Wish List of books we would like to acquire and we would also be happy to share that list.

What are the check-out policies at Ridgeview Library?

Students are welcome to check-out one book a week when their class visits the library.  The book is due to be returned the following week.  If students would like to renew their book they may do that for up to two additional weeks.

Are there late fees or lost book fees?

There are no late fees if books are returned late.  However, there are lost book fees.  If a book is lost we ask the student to pay the purchase price of the book so a replacement copy may be bought.  If your child has a late book that we suspect might be lost we will send home a note that includes the replacement cost for the book.

Thank you for considering donating your time as a volunteer in the RES Library.  Please contact Christin Gustafson or Angela Chihoski at [email protected] or visit the Ridgeview PTO Facebook page.
